The Flag of the Faeroe Islands was announced as the official flag of the Faeroe Islands on April 25th, 1940. Created by Jens Oliver Lisberg, the cross, as with other Nordic flags, represents Christianity. Other names for the flag are: "Merkio" "The Banner" and "the mark".
